The story of Greenwich starts here with 600 years of history.
Visit this magnificent 17-acre riverside estate in the heart of the Greenwich Maritime UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tickets include access to the breath-taking Painted Hall, which took 19 years to Paint, known and the UK’s Sistine Chapel.
The expert-led, award-winning site tour is included in your visit and departs from the Visitor Centre hourly throughout the day. This includes the Visitor Centre, the grounds and the stunning Chapel of St Peter and St Paul. The tour tells the story of the estate’s 600 years of history: from a manor house in 1420’s, rebuilt as Greenwich Palace for Henry VII and the birthplace of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I; to the commissioning of Sir Christopher Wren in 1694 by Royal warrant for the design of a Royal Hospital for Seamen; then in 1873 becoming the Royal Naval College.
Take time to try your hand at one of the oldest Victorian Skittle Alleys in existence (usually open from 12-3) which was built to entertain the Seamen.

Good to Know: Grounds Free to visit and open daily to all, the grounds are a perfect place to relax, stroll, or have a picnic, surrounded by some of the finest buildings in the world. The extensive gardens follow the mid-19th century designs of Phillip Hardwick.
Picnics If you have brought your own packed lunch or want to eat food from The Old Brewery, Painted Hall Café or Greenwich Market outdoors, why not sit on the lawn of the Old Royal Naval College and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. All we ask is that you help us to keep our grounds tidy and throw away your litter into the designated bins.
Photography Photography on the site for personal use only is free of charge, though the use of tri-pods, lighting etc. are not allowed. The Old Royal Naval College welcomes visitors with disabilities, their families, friends and carers.
